Top 25 high school football scores: No. 1 Mater Dei defeated No. 2 St. John Bosco 59-14

No. 8 North Shore scores late touchdown to beat No. 16 Atascocita, 27-23.

Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) decisively proved they’re the top high school football team in the country by defeating No. 2 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) 59-14. This marked the first time since Jason Negro became head coach in 2010 that his Braves experienced a running clock in a game. It was also their most lopsided loss since Mater Dei’s 49-24 victory in the 2017 Southern Section Division 1 championship.

Mater Dei gained an early 7-0 advantage after a fumble recovery by Dash Beierly, leading to a 35-yard flea-flicker touchdown pass to Kayden Dixon-Wyatt. Following an 11-0 lead in the first quarter, the Monarchs exploded with 34 points in the second.

Jordon Davison’s touchdown increased the lead to 17-0 early in the second quarter. Beierly then broke through for a 40-yard rushing touchdown, followed by Aaryn Washington’s interception return for a touchdown, pushing the score to 31-0. Beierly threw two more touchdowns to Gavin Honore and Semi Taulanga, giving Mater Dei a 45-0 halftime lead. He ended the night with 309 passing yards, four touchdowns, and a 40-yard rushing score.

Next, Mater Dei wraps up its regular season against No. 15 Orange Lutheran (Orange, Calif.) on Nov. 1. The Lancers recently claimed an impressive 38-0 victory over Servite (Anaheim, Calif.).

In Texas, No. 8 North Shore (Houston) edged No. 16 Atascocita (Humble) 27-23 with a last-second touchdown from Kaleb Bailey to Quanell Farrahkan Jr. Cameron Smith’s incredible 35-yard juggling catch set up Bailey’s game-winning pass. Despite missing their star running back, Tory Blaylock, for most of the game, the Mustangs extended their winning streak over Atascocita to nine games, improving to 8-0.

No. 6 IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) handed East St. Louis (Ill.) its first loss of the season, winning 14-13 in overtime. The Ascenders blocked East St. Louis’ PAT before Ty Hawkins connected with freshman Eric McFarland III on a 10-yard touchdown pass, securing the win. IMG Academy faces St. Frances Academy (Baltimore) on Nov. 1.

Dia Bell led American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.) to a thrilling 42-38 comeback victory over No. 21 St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), overcoming a 38-28 deficit in the fourth quarter. Bell completed 19 of 22 passes for 266 yards and three touchdowns, adding 117 rushing yards and another score.

In other Saturday games, No. 20 Bergen Catholic (Oradell, N.J.) defeated St. Joseph Regional (Montvale, N.J.) 28-17 for their seventh consecutive win, while No. 24 DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.) rallied from a halftime deficit to overpower St. John’s (Washington, D.C.) 31-8 in the second half. They close out their season next Friday against Bishop McNamara (Forestville, Md.).
