Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood, Fla.) made its debut in this week’s MaxPreps Top 25 high school football rankings, landing at No. 17 after defeating St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) 29-22. The Lions have now won six straight games following an 0-2 start.
Five-star junior athlete Derrek Cooper led the charge with a dominant rushing performance, contributing over 150 yards and two touchdowns as part of the team’s 315-yard ground attack. Jaquari Lewis secured the game-winning touchdown with 6:35 remaining, and the defense held strong to seal the victory.
St. Thomas Aquinas dropped 12 spots to No. 21 following the loss.
No. 4 Duncanville (Texas) continued its impressive season with a 42-20 triumph over DeSoto (Texas). Alabama commit Keelon Russell had a standout game, completing 27 of 36 passes for 427 yards and six touchdowns. LSU-bound wide receiver Dakorien Moore was his primary target, catching nine passes for 231 yards and scoring four touchdowns. The Panthers improved to 5-0 and will host Lancaster (Texas) on Friday.
DeSoto fell eight spots to No. 25 after the defeat.
No. 3 Milton (Ga.) used a strong second-half performance to pull away from Gainesville (Ga.) for a 42-24 victory, improving their record to 8-0. The defending AAAAAAA state champions secured their 18th consecutive win, with four-star Miami commit Luke Nickel passing for 286 yards and three touchdowns, while senior running back T.J. Lester added 139 rushing yards and three scores.
No. 11 Archbishop Spalding (Severn, Md.) continues to dominate, having outscored their last six opponents 277-0. Earlier in the season, they notched impressive wins over Archbishop Hoban (Akron, Ohio) and No. 24 DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.).
