In a thrilling Class 4A playoff matchup, the Lewis Central Titans edged the Western Dubuque Bobcats 28-24 on Thursday night at Western Dubuque High School. The game was close throughout, with neither team leading by more than a touchdown at any point.

The Titans struck first in the second quarter when quarterback Jake Jensen connected with wide receiver Ben Johnson for a 35-yard touchdown pass. The Bobcats responded early in the third quarter with a 1-yard touchdown run by running back Alex Stevens.
The Titans regained the lead later in the third quarter when Jensen threw his second touchdown pass of the game, this one a 20-yarder to tight end Jack Peterson. The Bobcats answered back with a 15-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Brandon Smith to wide receiver Tanner Jones.
The Titans took a 28-21 lead with just over five minutes remaining in the game on a 5-yard touchdown run by running back Sam Davis. The Bobcats had a chance to tie the game late, but Smith’s pass to the end zone was intercepted by Titans safety Michael Jones.
Jensen finished the game with 175 yards passing and two touchdowns for the Titans. Davis added 100 yards rushing and a touchdown. For the Bobcats, Smith threw for 150 yards and one touchdown. Stevens also had 100 yards rushing and a touchdown.
The Titans will now advance to the Class 4A state championship game, where they will face the winner of Friday night’s game between Cedar Rapids Kennedy and Waukee.
